If you've been attacked by bedbugs, you'll need to act fast to get rid of them. The first thing you should do is arrange for professional pest control treatment. This will get rid of the bugs that are hiding in your carpets and other areas in your home. In addition to the pesticide treatment, you'll also need to treat your beds to make sure they don't return to your sleeping quarters. Here are four steps you can take to stop the bed bugs from returning.

Strip and Wash the Bedding

The first thing you'll need to do is remove all of your bedding. You'll need at least one large trash bag for each bed in your home. Remove the bedding from each bed and roll it up tightly. Place the bedding inside a trash bag and close it up. Keep the bags closed until you're ready to wash the bedding.

Once you're ready to wash your bedding, you'll want to open the bags carefully. Place the bedding in the washing machine and run them through a wash cycle with hot water. To dry them, you'll also use the hot cycle. Be sure to throw the bags away in your outside trash receptacle.

Clean the Mattresses and Bed Frames

While your bedding is in the washing machine, you'll need to clean your mattresses and bed Frames. Vacuum the entire mattress, including the seams and crevices along the edges. Flip the mattress over and vacuum the other side. While you have the mattress off the bed frame, clean the edges of the frame using your vacuum.

Place your mattress back on the bed frame and spray the mattress with a bleach and water solution. Simply fill a spray bottle with two cups each of bleach and water. You can also add a tablespoon of lemon juice or several drops of lavender essential oil to freshen your mattress. Spray the entire mattress with the cleaning solution and allow it to air dry. Repeat the process on each mattress.

Install Bed Bug Traps

Bed bugs can get into your bed by climbing up the legs of your bed frame. You can prevent that by installing bed bug traps on each of your bed frames. Bed bug traps are cup-like devices that are placed under each leg on your bed frame. Bed bugs climb in and get trapped. You can clean out the traps by using the crevice attachment on your vacuum.

If you have bed bugs in your home, you need to call an exterminator as soon as possible. The simple tips provided here will help you kill the bugs that are in your bed and prevent them from returning.
